SIR EDWIN MITGHELSON RESIGNS [SI’ECJAL. TO TUE ‘ STAR.’] AUCKLAND, January 20. After occupying the position of president of tlio Auckland JLacing Club for nearly thirty yeais, Sir Edwin Mitchelson has handed in his resjgnation to tho committee, and a special meeting will bo held next week to consider whether it will be accepted or not. In his earlier days Sir Edwin was actively engaged in horse racing, and was one of the syndicate of three who founded tho first stud farm in the dominion, and several good horses, which raced successfully both in New Zealand and Australia, wore bred at this stud. He has been associated with the Auckland Racing Club for just on fifty years, and much of the club’s success and progress is due to his great interest and administrative ability. During his long membership he has held office as judge, steward, committeeman, vicepresident, and president. The beautiful gardens at .Ellerslic, which are a feature of tho city, are almost wholly due to Sir Edwin’s expert botanical knowledge. The club paid him a unique tribute when, in 1929, his bust in bronze, executed by the eminent Australian sculptor, Sir Bertram Mackonnal, was unveiled on the lawn at Ellerslic.
