ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
LORRY SKID. A Maori named Hi Kaurauria, of Oringi, near Dannevirke, met with a serious accident while driving a lorry, down Te Aute Hill on the way from Dannevirke towards Hastings yesterday afternoon. The lorry skidded in loose shingle and went over a bank, turning over several times. Kaurauria, who was by himself, managed to scramble out just before the lorry caught fire. He was found by another, motorist who was on his way to Pal* merston North, and first noticed the smoke and then saw the victim lying beside the lorry. He was then unconscious, and when medical assistance came, was found to have several broken ribs, one of which had penetrated the lung. His condition last night was as well as could be expected. REMAINS IDENTIFIED. The circumstances of the death of n man who was missed from his home in February, 1918, and whose remains were found on a farm at Wade Head, : near Silverdalc, last month, formed the subject of an inquest by the Auckland coroner (MrF. K. Hunt). The remains were identified by a watch and. a gun as those of Peter Hansen, aged 57, a native of Denmark, who had been in New Zealand for about ten years at the time of bis death, and who farmed a property in the locality.
