Mr E. J. Stubbs left this morning on his return to Auckland. At last night’s meeting of the Dunedin Bowling Centre Mr T. Smith referred to the death of Mr W. D. Snowbal, who ; he said, was not only a bowler, hut in a quiet, unostentatious manner had been of very great service to the city. The St. Clair Club, of which Mr Snowball had been a member, had passed a resolution of sympathy, with his relatives. He moved that the centre forward a letter of condolence to his wife and family. The motion was carried, the members standing in silence. Sergeant J, J. Hogan, of the Wellington South police station, retired on; superannuation at the end of last week after forty-two years’ service, He joined the Permanent Artillery in 1890, and was transferred to the Police Department in 1892, doing duty in Dunedin and Christchurch. He was later transferred as a sergeant to Auckland, where he remained for two years, after which he was transferred to Hastings as sergeant l in charge. He was stationed there for about eighteen,' years, and then went to Rotorua in a similar capacity. After two years and a-half in that town Sergeant Hogan' was transferred to Wellington South,' taking up his duties there early last year. . Grand Hotel guests include Miss Ruahine C. Visitors to the City Hotel include Messrs I. Sewell, C. J. Gray, and C. : R. Williamson (Christchurch), Miss M, : Dixon (Ashburton), Misses _S. and M.; Brown (Waimate), and Miss A. Williams (Invercargill).
