DISMISSAL NOTICES

TWO MINES AFFECTED [Pb* Ukitkd Press Association.] HAMILTON, January 19. Further dismissal notices totalling fifteen were distributed among the Glenafton and MacDonald miners yesterday. The total for the two mines is now 167. Before the dismissals, 510 men were employed; after yesterday’s list takes effect, there will be only 343 miners in the district, now averaging only two days’ work a week. It is understood tnat the majority of the men involved in to-day’s dismissals are residents of Huntly. This will greatly aggravate unemployment in the' district. „ . Recently following the first dismissals, a secret ballot was taken to decide whether the men would go out on strike. The result of the ballot will not be known until after a conference with the mine owners, to take place shortly* '
