WATER HEATING CHARGES

POWER BOARD DISCUSSION PROBABLE SOLUTION AT NEXT MEETING Water heating and the charges therefor were discussed at this morning’s meeting of the Otago Electric Power Board, Mr W. Taine opening the discussion by explaining that he had been keeping records of the use obtained and the cost of his water heating. . Mr Taine said that the installation of a thermostat had been of inestimable benefit in his case, and he hoped further to discuss the matter with the engineer with the idea of bringing forward a flat rate for a restricted supply thermostatically controlled. He frankly disagreed with the idea of supplying without the use of thermostats, and said that in his opinion the change-over switch was a nuisance. The engineer' (M. J. 0. Collins) said that all the ideas propounded as solutions to the difficulty of charges for water heating the best he had heard was that put forward by Mr Taine, whose proposal had given him a new line to work upon, and he really thought that the board would be able to evolve a series of flat rate charges that would be satisfactory both to itself and the consumer. Of course, he would require time to go into the matter thoroughly. Finally, it was recommended that the engineer report to the executive committee and bring forward, if possible, an alternative system of charging for water heating at the next meeting of the board.
