One of the principal effects of the threatened financial chaos appears to be tho closing of the public schools. Hundreds of thousands of citizens are protesting against the contemplated disruption of the children’s education, many schools already having been closed. The officials are making frantic efforts to re-establish the city’s credit, but with little success as yet. Two important radio stations, however, announce plans to broadcast a wide variety of lectures over tho air to replace classroom work for elementary and junior high school pupils if it proves necessary.
