KINGSFORD SMITH

FEELING THE COLD ENGLISH APPOINTMENT DENIED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 30. (Received December 31, at 11.25 a.m.) The cold is worrying Air-commodore Kingsford Smith almost as much as the machine’s ill-luck. He flatly dismissed the stories that he is accepting an appointment in England. “ I have no desire to leaye Australia. It is too cold here,” he said. Kiugsford Smith hopes to return to the sunshine in Sydney in a fortnight from January 6. It is revealed that in the absence of any move from Australia it is impossible to do anything hero to push a regular mail service.

It is reaffirmed that the Southern Star’s mail paid its way, but it was an exceptional novelty, and a regular mail would not first have the same patronage, though Kingsford Smith is convinced that the service could stand on its own resources after a year’s aid.
