CROQUET

It is intended to devote some ipiee i« each- Saturday’s issue to items of interest to croquet players. The secretaries of the various clubs are asked to send in notes to “ Diana ” not later than Wednesday in each week. Correspondence is invited and inquiries as to fine points of the game or other matters connected with croquet will be answered as far as possible.

Personal. Airs Haigh, of tho Taieri Club, will be in Timaru during tho South Island tournament. Airs T. AI. Al‘Donald and Airs W. Quinn, of the Invercargill Club, will be among those entering for the South Island tournament. Otago Croquet Association. A meeting of tho Match Committee of the association was held this week, when the following handicaps were readjusted:— Airs Buchlcr (Punga), reduced from 4 to 3. Mr Nichol (Opoho), from- 6 to 4. Mrs Withers (Leith), increase 1 from 7 te: 7i Airs W. Speight (St. Clair), increased from to 6J. Airs Al'Naughton (St. Clair), from 5} to 6. The programme for the Otago tournament to commence on March 1 on Punga lawns was drawn up, and should roach tho various clubs at the beginning of January. There has been a slight alteration in the grades.. A grade will consist of players of six bisques and under. B grade of players of six and a-half bisques and over. South Island Tournament. Entries for the South Island tournament, to commence ill Timaru on January 4, close with tho secretary, Airs Pennvfathcr, Timaru, on December 29. New Zealand Council. Thb New Zealand Council has issued a leaflet containing various additions and amendments which should bo added to the 1931-32 annual, so as to make it a complete and accurate record. One paragraph of interest to Otago players—and which those who have annuals should cut out and paste in—is a list of the whiners of South Island events, 1931, as follows:—South Island open championship (cup presented by Airs R. W. AFCreath), All's James Horn; South Island ladies’ championship, Mi's W. N. Corbett; South Island championship doubles, Alcsdames J. Horn and T. AI. Alacdonald. An alteration in boundaries is that Waitaki is deleted from Otago district and added to South Canterbury. There are over 100 alterations to bisques, hut no Otago names appear on tho list. The alterations to Otago players’ bisques have been made since -the leaflet was printed.
