THE SPORTS GIRL
HER BEAUTY Strenuous games at all times, hut particularly in the heat and glare of a summer’s day, do not tend to improve one’s appearance. But a few simple treatments before going out will do a great deal for a woman who studies her looks. She is a wise woman who removes all cream and powder from her face before going on to the tennis court. It is quite impossible to avoid perspiration, and so the pores should be clear. All kinds of blotchiness and all kinds of rashes and irritation of the skin arise during hot weather as a result ,of choked pores. Powder must be chosen with added care, and always removed at night. The following treatment will keep the skin clear and smooth. Wash the face in warm water. Rain water is best, but boiled or distilled water will do. Make a paste from ground oatmeal and rosewater, and add this to water. After washing, rinse with lukewarm water to which a few drops of benzoin tincture have been added. Strict observance of this treatment for a week or two will impart to most skins a pleasant texture with no shine. The face should always be left to cool down for at least half an hour after play. Even then no liquid should be applied, but ht the first opportunity a cooling cucumber lotion or a solution made by adding a few drops of witchhazel to a teacupful of water, should be used.
