CLINTON SCHOOL

ANNUAL CONCERT At the annual concert of the Clinton School, held in the Coronation Hall, the seating accommodation was taxed to its uttermost. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr R. W. Jones) gave greetings to all on behalf of the children, teaching staff, and committee, and thanked the audience for its loyal support as typified by the packed house. He then briefly stressed the necessity for permanent additional accommodation at the school, a number of classes having occupied a rented hall for three years. In referring to the necessity for a secondary department, the chairman stated that the _ department proposed to make provision by establishing a Form 111. class, better known as a seventh standard. While this proposal did not entirely meet the wishes of everyone concerned, the speaker urged the 'parents throughout the district to give the project their whole-hearted support, for an enrolment of twenty scholary would earn the appointment of a secondary assistant, and the early establishment of a District High School. ThQ chairman also added that the board was endeavouring to have dressmaking for girls included, in the Form 111. class syllabus, and the committee would also endeavour to arrange suitable training for the boys. The concert then opened with the New Zealand Anthem and other choruses, followed by twelve items, all by the school children, who earned rounds of applause from the audience, which keenly followed the lengthy programme. At the conclusion of the concert the chairman, on behalf of the committee, thanked the children, teaching staff, and other helpers for the meritorous performance, Mr M'Laugblin for donating writing prizes, and other donors for gifts of sweets for the children. The presentation of prizes and certificates by the Rev. Mr Tweedio then followed, and the evening was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.’ ,
