Tho earth revolves on its axis in twentyfour hours, so that at the equator it js travelling at a speed of about 1,000 miles an hour. The speed declines as we approach the poles. Then the earth travels round the smi at about 66,000 miles an hour. It also travels through space with the sun and tho planets at the rate of about twelve miles per second.
