The State Cabinet commuted to life imprisonment the death sentence which was passed on Leonard Grewcock for the murder of William Thompson. [A message from Sydney on December 17 read as follows Described as an inoffensive, decent citizen, William Henry Thompson, aged thirty, a native of Wellington, New Zealand, when going home along a lane at Campsio on Decomber (5, was viciously attacked with a piece of gaspipo, and he eventually died from a fractured skull. Tho police evidence at the inquiry today was that they arrested Leonard Grewcock, aged nineteen, who mdao a statement admitting having killed 'Thompson for no apparent reason. Grewcock was under the influence of drink, and something .seemed to say to him; “Kill this .” At that very moment Thompson happened to pass by.]
