Jack (“Legs”) Diamond, the notorious gangster, was _ critically wounded by shot gun slugs in (in Acra (New York) road house. Bo was seated with a companion at a monl when lie suddenly rose and wont to tho door. Tho guests heard shots and found him on tho iloor. A tanner who was passing took him and his companion to Albany Hospital. Diamond was shot before, in October, 1927, and again last August._ Ho had just recovered from his injuries. MURDER OF POLICE OFFICER LI EE IMPRISONMENT. NEW YORK, April 27. (Received April 28, at 10.5 a.in.) Tho career of crime and murder of Fred Burke was apparently ended when ho received a life imprisonment sentence at St. Joseph (Michigan) for tho murder of a police officer. Throughout tho brief trial Burke, who is wanted for questioning regarding at least twenty minders in eighteen States, remained cool and t|iiiet. On receiving tho sentence ho arose, turned to the judge, and said “Thank you’ and sat down again.
