UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF.

TO TH* EDITOR. Sir, —I would like to know why The men who started work on Thursday afternoon (23rd inst.) were deprived of their, full two days’ work. We received only one and a-half days’ work, and, owing to Saturday • being Anzac Day, we were told by our ganger tha we would finish on Friday night and receive our wages at the Town Hall. Why were we not allowed to continue our half-day on Monday, as I, for one, relied on the £1 5s we were to receive to pay off arrears in board and lodging, but as 1 received 18s 9d I was unable to pay anything off that account; in fact, I was Is 3d short of this week’s board, so I think, as others received £1 6s for their two days, we should have been allowed to work half a day on Monday to make up the deficiency.—l am, etc., A 37.
