PARLIAMENTARY DEFICIT.
to the editor. Sir, —The Prime Minister, in his statement of tho huge deficit of live millions, gives two rather mysterious statements as reported by you. First, pensions, etc., £200,000, Jb would have been more correct and confidential had tho Premier given tho exact amount of pensions, without the etceteras. Second, ho states there is a huge decrease in stamp duties, while tho Hon. Postmaster-General stated that, though ho had not tho figures with him, ho knew there was a substantial increase. It is a great pity wo could not get a full return of Ministerial travelling expenses, as, according to one of your Wellington contemporaries, there is a big sum wasted needlessly.—l am, etc., Radical. April 27. (The Prime Minister clearly meant that there would be a great decrease in postal revenue, if tho increased charges had not been made.—Ed E.S.]
