AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOIt. Sir, —In rcforencu to tho letter published by mo under tho heading of ‘ Crime ’ in the ‘ livening Star ’ on the 22nd April, my attention has been drawn to the fact that portion thereof might be construed by innuendo to refer to Mr J. A. Thomson, clectrican, Port Chalmers, against whom proceedings were recently taken by me to recover the value of certain goods sold to him from my premises. I desire to say that I had no intention to make any reflection at all upon Mr Thomson. The Magistrate decided that Mr Thomson had bought his particular goods in good faith from one who, tho Magistrate hold, was in the circumstances my ostensible agent. There was no ground for any allegation of crime or dishonesty against Mr Thomson in the matter, and 1 believe ho acted in perfect good faith. 1 regret, therefore, if there was anything in the letter which might have been construed as casting any reduction upon him. —1 am, etc. F. .1, O’Nkim,.
