Calls of “Good-bye!” from the crowd at tlio rear of the courtroom, cheering, and a little faint boo-ing concluded an all-day case in the Police Court on Friday, "when three men, John Joseph Robinson, a miner, aged thirty years, Roy Ernest Goode, a seaman, _ aged thirty-sis years, and Joseph Smith, a carpenter, 'aged forty-one years, were charged on various counts with assaulting and obstructing tho police in the execution of their duty. Tho charges arose from a scuffle that took place at the gates of Parliament grounds on Thursday morning last when a procession of unemployed demonstrators was refused admission to tho grounds by tho police, and a section of them endeavoured to rush the gates. Each of the accused pleaded not guilty. Smith, on whoso behalf Mr P, Fraser, M.P., gave evidence, was given tho benefit of tho doubt and was discharged. Goode was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months, and Robinson was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.
