SECOND GRADE
In the match Grange v. University, Grange in their second innings had scored 57 runs for the loss of three wickets when play had to be abandoned on account of the rain. Mount (14 not out}, Riach (14), and Breen (12 batted well, while Cabot (one wicketo for 5 runs) and Sinclair (two for 25) secured the wickets for University. _ Grange gained a victory on the first innings of the first day’s play, when they scored 118 runs to University’s 75. North-east Valley (108) defeated Carisbrook A (106). Requiring 3 runs to win with three wickets in hand, Carisbrook failed to score, the last man being caught behind the wickets just before rain stopped play for the day. Batting for North-east Valley, Cook (41), Bunn (19), H. Cullen (15), and Hughes (14) were the best. For Carisbrook, Napier (44), Groves (16), and Smith (13) played well. The bowling honours were shared by Cook (three wickets for 33 runs), Hughes (two for 5), Bunn (two for 17). Marks (one for 4), Cullen (one for 271 for North-east Valley; and for Carisbrook M'Leod (four wickets for 1 run! Douglas (two for 29), Charman (one for 22), and Groves (one for 40) were the best. Tho match Dunedin v. High School Old IBoys, played at Logan Park, resulted in a win for the former by 43 runs on the first innings. Dunedin, batting first, made 166. Constable (74), Pyne (23), Eckhold (21 not out), Peterson and Napier (16 each) batted well; while Blyth (six wickets for 54 runs) bowled well for Old Boys. High School Old Boys made 73 in their first innings. Clarke (20 11 Latimer (11), and Cunningham (101 batted best. For Dunedin, Constable took five wickets for 30 runs, and Hewitt two for 1.
