—Vice-Regal.—' At Auckland, on Saturday night, tho Governor-General and Lady Alice I ergusson were entertained at a large gathering of citizens in the Town Hati.The mayor (Mr 6- Baildon) presented to Sir Charles an address from the city expressing esteem and affection for; their Excellencies. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. .J. B. Donald) and the Minister of Health (the Hon. A J. Staijworthy) were on the platform. In replying, the Governor-General referred to the happy days they had spent in New ZealandTheir Excellencies received an enthusiastic reception. They returned to Wellington to-day. . ... Their Excellencies have completed . their final tour of the North Island. They leave on their final tour of the South Island next Monday, arriving at DUnedin on the Tuesday and Christchurch on the Thursday. They return to Wellington on the Friday, and leave New Zealand on February 1.

The Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways) is at present on a tour, of Otago Central in an official capacity. He will probably leave for WelEngton again early next week. Sir Joseph Ward has received from Lord Comrose, of London, hearty New Year greetings on behalf of “a distinguished gathering in Hyde Park for. the inaugural recital of the Wellington War Memorial Carillon, temporarily erected through the courtesy of the society, your Government, and the British Government.” Sir Joseph Ward has sent a suitable reply. . After spending Christmas at Pounawea in connection with the convention there, Mr Frank Varley' left Dunedin early last week for Christchurch W where he was one of the speakers at the Saltaire Convention held at New Year From there Mr Varley will proceed to Nelson for a brief holiday, returning to Dunedin before the end of the month. . t J .
