CYCLONIC STORM

DAMAGE IN NORTH AUCKLAND [Per United Press Association'.! AUCKLAND, November 1. A cyclonic disturbance which swept over a wide area North of Auckland last night, although of short duration, caused considerable damage, particularly in Kumeu and New Lynn districts. The rear portion of a _ house owned by L. N. Dormer in Craigbank avenue, New Lynn, was struck by the cvclone, one of the chimneys falling. The roof at the back of the house was lifted over a foot, and the rain poured into the kitchenette. The damage to .the house is estimated at about £l5O. The storm broke over Kumeu with terrific, violence about 6 o’clock. It commenced with a sudden gust of wind, which swept along a narrow path about a quarter of a mile wide, striking the home of Mrs E. Schraft. The house was shaken, pictures falling to the floor; and the terrified family rushed from the building into a paddock. Large macrocarpa trees surrounding the homestead were tom up by the roots.
