DONOVAN BEATS OOBLE 'At Wellington last night Tommy Donovan (8.12 J) beat Tommy Doble (B.Hi), of Australia, on points in a fifteen - round professional featherweight match. It was a contest between a fighter and a boxer, the fighter being the winner, but many of the spectators questioned the correctness of the decision. MATCHES IN THE OFFING Johnny Leckie is preparing for his contest with the Australian, Billy Grime, at Napier, on December 7, and will prohahK leave for the north very shortly. Ho has agreed to fight at Palmerston North on December 26, his opponent being an Australian- boxer yet to bo selected. The Napier Boxing Association is also endeavouring to secure Pete Snrron’s services for a contest with Leckie. and the latter stated yesterday that following these contests he hoped tc fight in defence of his feather-weight title with Tommy Donovan as his opponent. New Plymouth is anxious to stage this bout, but Leckit as the holder, has the choice of venue and will probably decide upon Nanier where ho is to take up residence shortly, .It is unlikely that he and Donovan will clash much before the N°w Year Hector LecHe. the New Zealand light,weight "tampion, meets Donovan in a return contest at Ashburton on November 22, for a purse of £IOO, and he is confident of putting, up a better exhibition than when Donovan heat him in New Plymouth recently. Hector Leckie claims that he was not at his best for his recent contest with the Taranaki fighter.
