MEETING OF CONTROLLING BODY A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last night.. Present wore Messrs J. T. Paul (chairman), E. T. Mollcr, F. Boswell, W. 0. Martin, A. D. Asher, T. Brooks, T. Anderson, W. Sell, and F. Goodwin. Notification was received that the fourteen-footers Eileen, Kia Ora, Heather, and Squib would compete in tho trials for the selection of the provincial representative in the Sanders Cup races
The secretary of the Broad Bay Boating Club -wrote asking if-, the association would agree to the outboard championship being raced at the Broad Bay regatta on New-Year’s Day. He also stated that there might be several entrants from the north. Mr Martin stated that his dub was desirous of finding the fastest boat irrespective of size.—Tho application was agreed to. A letter was received from the sec retary of tho Otago Harbour Board, stating that the board had decided to donate £lO 10s towards thc_ local Sanders Cup fund.—Received with thanks. The Burkes-St. . Leonards Aquatic Club wrote that the opening day would be held on November 24.—Received. The Secretary of tho Kantane Amenities Society wrote intimating that several speed boat events would bo held at -Karitane on December 27, and asking the association to control these events.—Messrs Martin and Boswell were appointed to attend on behalf of the association. ■ A letter waff received from the secretary of the Cornwell, Cup Committee stating that the Auckland body was willing to -sail the contest at any port. IF tho races were sailed on the Otago Harbour, the Takapuna Club would render every assistance It. was hoped tc make the contest a success, irrespective of the port ; jt was sailed in. With regard to the contest, the Secretary of the North-east Harbour Boating Club wrote stating that his_ club regretted, the action of the association in abandoning the trial races this year, and asking the association to reconsider its decision. Mr Sell asked whether a. club could nominate a crew. .
]t was explained by the Chairman that a challenge .'must he forwarded by a recognised association in any centre. It was to be regretted that the club could not see eye to eye with the association in the matter. If the association had decided to take part in the contest, it would have met with strong opposition from several clubs in Otago. Tho association’s decision had met with the approval of the majority of local club members. In reply to a--query from Mr Moller as to whether the association would send a challenge if money-was found to send two, boys to tho contest. _ the Chairman said he was of the opinion 'that the association should abide by its decision, and reminded delegates of the difficulty of raising sufficient funds to send a Sanders Cnp crew. He thought that ~ the association had adopted tho right course in deciding not to compete in the next contest. , It was decided .to inform the Northeast Harbour Club, that the association would keep to its decision. The Ilavensbourne Club wrote that its" motor boat course for club events was live miles, once round The Secretary of the North-east Harbour Club intimated that his committee intended to consider the question of courses. • , . Exception was taken, by Mr Sell to the Otago , Club’s system of handicapping, as his opinion was that it would not be beneficial to tho sport. The Chairman said that the handicapping last season and the season before had been unsatisfactory. The Burkes-St. Leonards Aquatic Chib’s application for affiliation to the association w’as accepted.
