Owing to the extension of the cigar etto habit, particularly among women, tha consumption of tobacco, which was 2.i!b per capita in 1914. rose to 3.4 last year. The consumption in 1907 was divided as follows;—71 per cent, pipes, 23 B per cent, cigarettes, 5.2 per cent, cigars. In 1924 the figures were:— Pipes -10 per cent., cigarettes 58.5. and cjcars 1,5. supplies of Empire leal increased from 3.3 per cent in 1921 to 18.4 last year, mostly pipe tobacco. The world’s production in 1926 was 4.9oo.ooo.ooolb.—United Service.
