AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL GAMES CHOOSING OLYMPIC COMPETI- - SYDNEY - , January 7. The Australian national games carnival, held as a preliminary to the choosing of the Olympic competitors, commenced at Manly Oval to-day, all the leading Australian athletes competing. Carlton, who landed from the New Zealand steamer only this morning, won tho 100 metres in Usee. in the running high jump L. Mason (Victoria) created a new State record, clearing Oft 2in, defeating Davidson, tho Australian and New Zealand title holder. Other winners were:— 110 Metres Hurdles.—A. Watson (Victoria), 16sec. Throwing the Javelin.—O. Mitigate (New South Wales), 146 ft 3in. 200 Metres.—A. Walker (New South Wales), 22 3-ssec. 1,500 Metres. —Marlin (New South Wales), 4min 20 2-ssec. 800 Metres.—o. Stuart (New South Wales), 2min 6seo. Running Broad Jump.—C. Ebert (New South Wales), 22ft. Hop, Step, and Jump.—E. Ebert jumped 45ft lin, and beat Winter, the holder of the world’s record, who was out of form, by an inch. In the women's events Miss Winter won the running high jump, clearing 4ft 7in, and establishing a State record. Miss E. Robinson won tho 100 metres in 13 l-ssoc. CYCLING. 1,000 Metres Olympic Trial.—J. Standeu (New South Wales), Imin 16 2-sscc. Milo Junior Championship of Australia.—L. Standcn, 2min 17sec. Milo Senior Championship.—D. Gray I, R. W. Lamb 2. Time, 2min 13sec, J. Standen finished first, but was disqualified owing to alleged interference with Gray. Senior Five-mile Championship,—-J, Standen. Time, 12min 24 2-ssec,
