CRIMINAL AND CIVIL FIGURES FOR LAST YEAR. The returns of the Magistrate’s Court at Dunedin show that during last year the number of people arrested on various charges and brought before the magistrate numbered (327, and that the number brought up on summonses totalled 1,8(51, making a total number of persons charged 2,488. Of this number 2,‘JGO were males and 123 temales. During the year 135 juvenile offenders were brouglit before the Children s Court. The returns of the Civil Court show that 3,982 plaints were entered last vear, the total amount sued for being £60,179 14s lid. The number of cases which actually came to hearing was 1,987, involving £35,260 9s 9d, of which £32,574 4s 9d was recovered.
