DE VALERA'S FOLLOWERS PERMITTED TO TAKE OATH. Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 10. The Dublin correspondent of the ‘ Daily Mail ’ says that De Valera made a strong appeal for the continuance of the boycott of the Dail, but failed to impress his followers, the majority declaring that the Electoral Bill had completely changed the situation. Therefore a change of policy was essential to save the party from extinction. De Valera, under strong pressure, finally agreed to release the deputies front the election pledge against accepting a position which involved the taking of an oath of allegiance to a foreign Power. FIANNA FAIL STATEMENT. LONDON, August 10. (Received August 12, at 1 a.m.) At the conclusion of the Fianna Fail Conference a statement was made that it was agreed to take the oath after considering the position of national emergency created by legislation being pressed through the Dail which was likely to imperil the general peace and cause widespread suffering. The declaration does not imply any contractual obligation. It is merely an empty political formula which the deputies will conscientiously sign, not becoming involved in any obligation of loyalty to the English Crown. Fianna Fail would not wish to be debarred from exercising public functions by an empty formula. REPUBLICANS TAKE OATH. DE VALERA, INCLUDED, LONDON, August 11. (Received August 12, at 10 a.m.) De Valera and the other Republicans took the oath in the Dail to-day. They were introduced by Mr Johnson, the Labor Leader, and Captain Redmond.—A. and N.Z. and ‘ Sun ’ Cable. MR COSGRAVE IN ACCIDENT. LONDON, August 11. Cosgravo was badly cut about the face, which was required to be stitched. —A. and N.Z. and ‘Sun’ Cable.
