The meeting of the railway branch of the "Workers’ Educational Association' was again well attended. It had been arranged that Mr J. Saunders should give an address on the subject ‘ Arma ment and Defence,’ and this proved to bo a most important question. The address was listened to with the closest attention. The subject will ho continued by Mr G. M'Cracken at the next meeting. The following sub-headings were included in the address:—(l) ‘ Causes of the War Spirit,’ (2) ‘ Economic Need Alain Reason for Past Wars,’ (3) ‘An Outline of Man’s Gradual Development of Weapons of .Defence and Offence,’ (4) ‘Army, Navy, and Air Force of To-day,’ (6) ‘ Possibility or Probability of War,’ (6) ‘ Armament Firms’ Profits and Other Causes Loading to War,’ (7) ‘ War Not a Necessity of Human Development,’ 18) ‘lf War Develops Man, Why Are Fighting Nations so Backward?’ At the conclusion of the address the usual discussion by the members of the class followed, and a unanimous vote of thanks was carried to Mr J. Saunders for his address,
