DUNEDIN BEAUTY SPOTS.
TO XHB EDITOR. Sir, as a visitor who has been staying in your charming town for some weeks, I make a suggestion or two for conserving some of its natural beauties. One beautiful spot is the inlet of water at Anderson’s Bay at full tide. Surely it would not be a difficult or expensive job to make sluice gates to keep the water always there, just letting out occasionally at night and refilling at high tide. It would not only be a beauty spot, but a safe and pleasant place for small rowing boats. I don’t think residents realise what a lovely spot that place is, with the charming hillsides round it. It would be a crime to fill it in, as I am told there is some talk of doing. Another place that might be made a beautiful picnic ground is Quarantine Island. What an ideal place for ornamental trees and shrubs! Imagine them at this time of the year, especially in all their autumn glory! With the steamer trip down your beautiful harbor, what an asset it would be to any town. Trusting these ideas will bear fruit, especially the Anderson’s Bay one, I am, etc., Visitor. mow Australia.
