PILLAGED CARGO
CIGARETTE PAPERS AND CIGARETTES A case containing zig-zag cigarette papers which was landed from the steamer City of Canton yesterday at the Rattray street wharf was found to have been broken into. Fully onethird of the contents had been pillaged. The case, which had been repaired, was removed from the bottom of the ship, so that the pillagers are believed to have operated before the vessel came to Dunedin. The case originally contained handy-sized boxes of the papers, and the quantity removed would ; be- worth at least £6O from a retail point of view. Pillage of a very small quantity of Chesterfield cigarettes is reported to have taken place at a North Island port. The City of Canton had not discharged al! her local cargo from America this afternoon.
Barbers’ shops in Paris have leased their ceiling space to advertising concerns. Patrons are thus forced to read the advertisements while the barber shaves them, unless they desire to close .their eyes.
