-A - At a sitting of the Supreme Court at Blenheim Mr Justice MacGregor congratulated the district on the comparative absence of serious crime. Percy Stanley Probble, land agent, on a charge of forging a deed of mortgage by adding thereto a false signature, that of Frederick Jackson, there being no sucli person, and causing it to be acted upon as genuine and uttering the document, was-found guilty and sentenced to three years’ hard labor on each charge, the sentences to bo concurrent.
At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Architects the following office-bearers were elected;— Chairman, Mr Stanley M. Fearn; vicechairman, Mr E. H. De •Clere; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr E. W. G. Coleridge; committee—Messrs W. M. Page, W. Creighton, A. S. Mitchell, F. E. Greenish, A. B. Hamilton, S. Natusch. and Y D. Houghton. The Town Planning Act was approved by the chairman, who said the advent of the Bill would moan that the architects of New Zealand would be called upon to associate themselves with its provisions. The measure had been sought for a long time, and now that it had materialised it behoved the members of the profession to help along the good work.
The Filleul Street Church of Christ Sunday School held < an entertainment on Wednesday evening. Mr G. Lawrence (in the absence of the superintendent) was chairman, and opened the proceedings with prayer. The programme was as follows :—Songs by Peggie Lawrence,_ Olga Hesse, and Arthur Bingham; action song, ‘Beautiful Butterflies, ’ Frances and Queonio Galvin, Doris M‘Willi a ms, and Olga Hesse ; ‘Gipsy Song, 1 in character, Tui Harrison, Mignon and Doris Lawrence; action song and Tin-can Band, by junior boys; recitations, Frances Galvin, Queonio Galvin, Alf. Lawrence, Ken Bussell, Robert Galvin, Neilie Leckie, George Lawrence, and Messrs Hendry and Duncan; wand drill by girls; and a stunt, ‘ln the Sculptor’s Studio, 1 by senior boys. Refreshments were handed round, after which a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Hondry (a former teacher in the school) for training the children eo efficiently. Court Pride of the Leith, A.0.F., held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday last, when there was a large attendance of members under the charge of the C.R., Bro. 0. S. Hawes. The officers and members of the Juvenile Court attached to the parent Court Pride of the Leith were welcomed. The court adjourned in order to entertain the youthful members, amd harmony was contributed by Bros. W. Himmel, J. Benfell, H. C. J. T. Bennett, M. Spence, D. S. Munro, and C. C. Robertson, and a successful “ community sing 11 was also held. The president of Court Pride of the Valley, P.O.R. Bro. H. H. Gaston, returned thanks for the evening's entertainment. The toast of the visitors was responded to by P.C.R. Bro. W. Himmel, on behalf of Court Enterprise. One new member was admitted, and the nominations of five candidates were received.
