POMERANIAN AND PUPPIES
BUYER’S BUSINESS ARGUMENTS A tale of two men and a dog was told in the- Magistrate’s Court to-day. William Smith Dryden sold a Pomeranian bitch to John S. Connor, on condition that the purchase price was paid, with a contingency of two pups from the first litter. The sale was the subject of an application for an order under a judgment summons by Dryden (Mr B. S. Irwin) against Connor, a laborer, of Mosgiel. Connor said he was a mill worker, earning £4 per week. He had a family, the youngest child being six weeks old. He had bought the dog from Dryden, and when the puppies arrived he gave Dryden one. Later he found he could not pay for the Pomeranian bitch, and had returned her. Dryden was now claiming the money still owing on tho bitch, and the return of the second puppy, which witness had given to another man. The position was that he was not going to pay the amount, because he had returned the dog. Mr Irwin: We’ve hoard enough about the dog, but what about the money? Could you pay this amount if you wished?—Giving the dog back, in my opinion, was enough. But are you going to pay?—l gave him the dog hack because I could not pay. I paid him 80s, and he has got the dog. You don’t want to pay this amount? —No! To the Magistrate, defendant said he owed other amounts, but “ how much I cannot tell you.” “It is not a case for an order. He is a man with a young family, tho youngest being six weeks old, and he has had considerable expense lately,” said Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., in refusing the order.
