STAFFING OF BATHS

COUNCILLORS' DRASTIC MOVE RESIGNATION FROM COMMITTEE THREATENED In committee last nil'll fc Ihe City Council spent a long_ time discussing certain recommendations from the General Committee regarding the appointment of members of the Municipal Baths staff. The discussion had a somewhat sur- ' prising ending, for two members of the Genera! Committee sent in their resignations. These, however, the council would not accept. The committee discussion arose from the General Committee submitting two names for the position of male at- . tendant and two for the position of female attendant, and asking the conn- . cil to make the choice in each case. ' The debate concerned the point of whose business it was to make these appointments—the committee or the council. On a vote being taken, the matter was referred back to the committee to coipe , to a decision. When the council meeting closed the mayor said lie had just received two , resignations from the General Committee. Ho wanted the position cleared up, because there would not : now be a quorum for the next meeting of the committee. Councillors: Yes. there will. Only three are required. The Mayor; I have received the resignations of Cr Hancock and Cr Hayward. This will cause dislocation on ‘ the other committees. The Town Clerk pointed out that if these members resigned from the General Committee they resigned from 'the whole general section, comprising the Reserves, Library, and General Committees. Cr Lnrnach: 1. think they should withdraw their resignations and take their gruel. “It is not a matter of taking gruel,” said Cr Hayward. Cr. Taverner: The best thing they can do is to stick it out. Cr Shaddock moved that the resignations be not accepted, and this was seconded by Cr Scott, who thought that the two councillors were badly advised. Cr Clark held that the motion was not in order. The council could not but accept the resignations. The Mayor said ho would mlc that the motion was in order. The motion was carried. “Oh, well,” said Cr Hayward, “I suppose ive will have to go on as usual.”
