REPLY TO HARBOR BOARD General regret was expressed by the Harbor Board meeting yesterday at the inability of the Minister of Marine to meet the proposed delegation of Otago and Southland members of Parliament and representatives ot local bodies on the important' subject of coastal survey. Although the position had been placed before the Minister at several conferences and by correspondence, the secretary (Mr W J. Bardsley) was directed to again write the Minister submitting full details. The telegraph communications which passed between the board and the Minister on November 12 were placed before the board

To the Minister tho secretary wired: “Eg coastal survey. The board decided to request the Otago and Southland members of Parliament and representatives of local bodies to confer re this subject, and subsequently to wait upon you. Pleaso advise when you expect to be in Dunedin.”

The Minister telegraphed: “ Replying to your wire, I shall probably be passing through Dunedin in about throe weeks’ time, but until I learn from the Prime Minister after his return to the dominion the result of the discussion ho proposed to have with Home authorities on the question of coastal survey, 1 will not be in a position to furnish any information on the subject further to that already conveyed to your board in letters and at interviews, both here and in Dunedin.”

The board’s reply was “ Thanks for wire. One of the objects of the deputation is to request you to place the re-, quiroments of the port and district before thi Prime Minister immediately, if possible. Consequently it is desirable to interview you at the earliest possible date.”

The Minister replied: “Seeing there is little prospect ol ray visiting Dunedin before the 4th prox., and having regard to your lemarks concerning urgency of matters, I suggest you submit to me in writing full particulars of the request-”
