“PRETTY GIRLS FLY THROUGH”
HAWKE’S BAY DRIVING LICENSES ANYONE CAN GET PERMIT [Feb United Press Association.] NAPIER, November 16. Several somewhat scotching remarks about the issuing of motor drivers’ licenses were passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Hawke’s Bay County Council. “Is it a fait,” asked Cr Orr, “that we give a license to drive a car to any fool that comes along?” The Chairman (Cr Campbell) : That is so, but others get one as well. Cr Orr: What on earth is (ho good of giving a license at all at that rate? Cr Campbell: It is no good. Unless a driver gets into some trouble, or except for some special reason, there is no power tc refuse n license. Cr Chambers ■ I was under the impression that applicants were supposed to pass an examination. The Chairman; The practice was started in one place and then stopped. Cr Crosse: It is done at Palmerston North. Pretty girls fly through, but others experience some difficulty. The Chairman • It is quite useless unless the examination applies to all. Or Orr: As things are now, then anyone can get a license. The Chairman: That is so: the bigger the fool the bigger the license.
