BIG GAME IN AUSTRALIA
The seriousness of their calling F aE suddenly brought homo to two life insurance agents in Australia the 9U ie T day. Writes the ‘ Mutual Provident Messenger ’: —“ An incident, illustrative of the risks run by our field representatives in their missionary ardour, occurred recently in the western district of Victoria. Wo have long been aware that tho old-man kangaroo when hunted and brought to hay becomes a formidable opponent. We were hardly prepared, however, to learn of an unprovoked attack last month by a kangaroo on two travellers in a motor car. Our district agent, Mr V. JParkinson, accompanied by Dr le Soouf, were driving on the evening of August 25 along tho main road between Hamilton and Portland, Victoria, when a largo kangaroo suddenly appeared in the blaze of their headlights, sprang, at tho car, smashing the windscreen and the hood front, and finishing up with a broken neck in the back of the vehicle. Dr 1c Souef was somewhat cut about the head, but Mr Parkinson was fortunately uninjured. We congratulate these gentlemen on their narrow escape. It is surmised that this marsupial, brooding over the wrongs ol its race, or, perchance, over the result of tho fifth test match, suddenly saw a great light, and made a final magnificient gesture. If the incident portends any definite change in tho nature and habits of the kangaroo, our country agents may he assured that the necessary steps will bo taken for their protection.”
