PROPERTIES ABANDONED.
LOSE FOURTH 0J 1 RATES, [Fes United Press AssooUTicir.J WELLINGTON, July 19. During discussion with a deputation from Whangamomona (Taranaki) County Council It was stated that numbers of properties in the district had been abandoned by the holders, 00 per cent, of whom were ex-soldiers. The point at issue was the loss of revenue "to local bodies. In this case the council lost £1,154 out of a total revenue of £4,000. The Minister of Lands agreed that soma soldiers were over-protected. An Order in Council now enabled local bodies to ro» cover rates from the Crown,
