KAITANGATA DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB
The final shoot of the first competition tor the Carson Cup took place at tire Contrewood rnng-o on Saturday. Ihcrc was a full muster of the members. The day was fine, but a peculiar light militated against good shooting. Rifleman H. o. Baker was the only one to put on the limit, and this was done off the rifle. Tho ranges were 300 and 600 yards, seven., shots at each. The following were tho principal

Paterson 60, Rifleman T. Fraser 65 ; Rifleman W. Latham 55; total, 297. Holders.—Rifleman G. Middlcmass 62, Rifleman W. Oliver 58, Rifleman W. Johnston 57, Rifleman W. D. Carson 56, Rifleman H. Cuthbcvteon 54; total, 287. No. 2 Team. —Rifleman J. Kyle 59, Rifleman W. Penman 57, Rifleman J. Smith 55, Rifleman W. B- Reekie 54, Rifleman R. Barclay 38; total, 263. The scores are taken from tho 300 and 600 yards match, and is fired in conjunction with it. Hidden three months in an unfilled water tank of a steamship, twenty-six emaciated Chinese stowaways were recently removed to Ellis Island from a British steamship.
