THE POSITION TO-DAY. Yesterday’s takings at the produce street stalls amounted to about £250. A number of school children who were unable to forward produce sent sums of money totalling £9. One school sent as many ns twenty-nine cauliflowers, fourteen cabbacies, 160 cabbage plants, twenty-three bundles of rhubarb, and forty-nine dozen eggs. The mayor and the Unemployment Committee think the pupils of the District High School, Lawrence, who picked and packer! tho daffodils sold on tho streets, yesterday. On November 2 Mr T. Ds Spong will give an elocutionary recital in His Majesty's Theatre under the auspices of the Overseas Club. After payment of theatre and advertising expenses, tbje whole of tho proceeds will bo applied as follows:—7s per cent, to the unemployment fund, and 25 per coni, for material to bo used by th»- Overseas Ladies’ Committee in their work for the poor of Dunedin, Mr Do Spang will be assisted by leading vocalists, amongst whom are Mrs Wilfred Andrews, Mrs Avtley Black, and Mr Morlloy Peake.
