OLD BOYS VERSUS KAITANGATA. CUP FINAL. The weather • was perfect, and the ground- in tip-top condition for the final of the Soccer premiership. The Kaitangata supporters numbered some 200, and during the game did their utmost to inspire their side. Mr Brown controlled the encounter. A few minutes after 2 p.m. Old Boys lucked off with a strong sun in their eyes. Race and Alloo turned out for the Old Boys, and did useful work in front of goal. The Old Boys pressed early, but Jap. Thomson, receiving the ball, carried play well up the field, a goal kick resulting. Harraway was putting in some good work, but M’Aulay broke up the rush. _ Kaitangata rallied, ■ and _ Old Boys' goalie was called upon to savor Old Boys in turn pressed, and a good shot by Race was just cleared. Kai. forwards Started a rush, but Allan cleared. Alloo from a pass from Fraser made a weak shot. Ilunn centred well from a nice rush, but Cunningham relieved. A freekick gave Kai. a chance, but the Old Boys’ defence was sound. School then made an attempt, but the Kai. goalie saved well. Munsey obstructed, and from the free-kick Logan carried the ball over. From a nice centre from Dunn Jap. Shompson headed over. School cleared from a tight corner, and Race kicked well to tho line. From the throw-in Gregory- took tho ball up the field, and the Old Boys looked dangerous, but a goal kick resulted. Fraser had a shot from well out, but it went wide. Play travelled backwards and forwards, and Race receiving a nice pass scored a beauty, giving the goalie no chance. Old Boys 1 Kaitangata 0 From the kick-off Old Boys returned, hut the Kai. backs cleared, and a mis-, kick by Allan let Munsey away, who gave Deaker no chance with a low shot to the corner of the net. Kaitangata 1 Old Boys 1 Play livened up, and Harraway, receiving an injury played inside right, with Race in his old place at centre half. Halftime blew, with the score: Kaitangata 1 Old Boys ...' 1 On resuming Old Boys pressed, and Logan centring well gave Race a chance; but the Kai. backs smothered him. Kai. cleared well, and their forwards earned the ball well down to Old Boys’ goalmouth, but M'Loy missed an opportunity by kicking outside. Good play by School forwards was stopped by; Richardson. From the collision Fraser was winded, but soon recovered. Dunn was playing well for the miners, and a good pass across to Rarity was accepted, and a great goal resulted. Kaitangata ... 2 Old Boys 1

Kai. returned and Dunn again shot, but it went over the bar. Old Boys rallied, but Kai.’s defence was safe. Harraway from well out tried a shot, but it went too wide. Good work by Fraser, who was now playing right widg, gave Alloo a shot, which Logan rushed in and finished. Old Boys 2 Kaitangata 2

Play livened np, and Deaker was called on to save, conceding a corner. j\l‘Caw infringed, and from the free-kick School just missed scoring, a corner resulting. From the corner kick a scramble in front of goal ensued, and the ball coming well out to Race was netted with a good, hard shot. Old Boys 3 Kaitangata ... 2 Kaitangata pressed hard, but wild kicking lost good chances. Moody kicking the ball against Allan caused a stoppage for a short time. Midfield play followed, and M‘Caw tried n shot from well out, Deaker saving well. Good work by the Kai. forwards was spoiled by offside, which let Old Boys away, but Logan lost a chance through lying offside. A great shot by Howie was just turned round the post by Deaker. At this stage there was little to pick and choose between the teams, and Kaitangata were trying hard to equalise and forced a comer. Old Boys returned, and Fraser just missed, his shot coming across the goal when the left wing was too far hack to receive. M'Caw was disabled by a knock on the leg, but managed to carry on. Kai. forwards pressed, and M‘Loy sent in a shot which Deaker saved well. Again Deaker had to save a good shot from Dunn. The whistle blew for time, and the School supporters rushed the field and carried the victorious eleven off the field. Old Boys cheered their opponents, and relieved their good spirits with a haka. On the day’s play there was not much to choose between the teams, and the School forwards owe their win to the chances accepted by the forwards. Old Boys' ... 3 Kaitangata 2 Mr Brown was as efficient as ercr. His decisions were well accepted at all times without argument from the spectators. TEE CUP PRESENTED. At the conclusion of the game Mr S. S. Myere presented the cup to Mr Harraway, of the Old Boys’ team. He expressed his pleasure at doing so, and congratulated Old Boys on their win’. The game had been a very good one, and he hoped Kaitangata would come up again next year and put up such a battle for the cup as they had done this season. The teams then cheered each other, and the winners gave the Otago High School haka with spirit. RECORDS OF THE CUP. The cup winners since 1913 are- as follow : 1913 ... ... ... The third grade final was played off on Culling Park this afternoon, when, after a great struggle, Christian Brothers defeated Southern Aby 4 goals to 0. The game was a very good one, the sides being fairly evenly matched.
