SCHOOLS SEVEN-A-SIDE. The primary schools seven-a-side tournament organised by the Otago Rugby Football Union, commenced on Carisbrook on Saturday, Eight teams entered, and no time was lost by Messrs S. Stycbo and Bringans in getting tho games off up to time. The spells wero seven minutes each, no interval, and if there was no score at the end of the time play was continued, a force-down or a kick out of hounds counting against tho defenders. The proceeds were in aid of the Kaikorai Band’s Ballarat fund and St. John Ambulance Association. Messrs E. Whittaker and L. Galbraith were the referees. —First Round.— * Macandrcw Road v. Mosgiel.—Macandrew Road played one short, and Mosgiel scored within a few minutes, tho try being converted Macandrew Road attacked hard and compelled Mosgiel to force three times. There was no score in the second spell. Mosgiel 5-0. Musselburgh v. Normal.—Tho latter came on two short, and: Musselburgh scored two tries in tho first few minutes, the first not being converted. Normal worked up, and a potted goal finished the first spell. Musselburgh scored twice (unconverted) in the second half. Musselburgh, 14-4. Forbury v. Kensington.—Kensington had the best of the first spell and, scored once, the try being converted. Kensington scored again playing the other way, and Forbury tried hard, and scored just on time. Both tries were converted. Kensington, 10-5. Cfivcrsham v. High Street.—Cavorshnm won by default. Arthur .Street v. Albany Street. — Honors easy till the last minute of the first spoil, when Arthur Street, scored. The try was not converted. Second suell the Arthur Street scored two tries, both being unconverted. Arthur Street, 9-0. —Second Round.— Mosgiel v. Musselburgh.—Mosgiel had the best of the play in the first, spell, and crossed tho line twice. Both kicks failed. Mosgiel continued to have the best of it. anti added another 8 points. Mosgiel 14-0 Kensington v. Caversham.—Tho first spell was evenly contested, no score for either side. Kensington scored a good try in the second spell, which was converted. It was the hardest game in the first two rounds. Kensington, 5-0. —Semi-final.— Arthur Street v. Mosgiel.—Mosgiel had the advantage for the first few minutes, but Arthur Street relieved with lino kicking. There was no score at half-time. Arthur Street hemmed in Mosgiel on their own line, but a free kick took play to midfield. Time being up and no score, the game was continued. Mosgiel pressed hard, but a mark gave relief to the defenders. Both sides were tiring visibly, ami after playing for an extra twelve minutes Mosgiel scored at the corner. Mosgiel, 3-0. Owing to tho Irani game in the semifinal it was decided to leave tho playing off of the final between Kensington and Mosgiel till after the schools’ vacation. ZIXGARI v. SOUTHERN. —Fifth Grade Contest.— This game was played after the conclusion of the. schools’ tournament. Southern kicked off from tho south end, and play hovered round midfield for some time till Southern forwards worked play to the Colors’ goal line and compelled them to force. Zingari were securing the ball from tho scrums, but could not get away with it, the Southern forwards smothering quicklv. Offside play about the twenty-five lino gave Southern a chance, but the kick for goal was charged down. Zingari were’first to score. Southern’s full-back miss-kicked, and a Zingari forward, following up, picked up and scored. Tho try was not converted. Zingari, 3-0. Up till within a minute to halftime the game was evenly contested, tho forwards of both teams doing most of the work. Zingari had an unsuccessful shot for goal, and half-time was called with tho score unaltered.

Zingari took the offensive in the opening stages of the second spell and constantly had their opponents in trouble, but good Hue kicking nullified their efforts. Southern back line broke away, and the wing had a race with the opposition fullback for the ball, but the Colors’ man was there first and forced. Zingari retaliated, and camo near scoring, but good tackling near the line spoilt tile chance. Southern had a final effort to score, and got well clown to the Colors’ line, but the ball was forced. Just before time Zingari, by a determined effort, canto 1 the ball to Southern’s goal lino and scared. The kick at goal failed. Zingari 5 Southern 0 Mr A. J. Haub was the referee. OTHER GAMES. Herbert, Haynes (6) defeated Arthur Barnett (3). Haig and Spence scored for the winners, and Fraser kicked a penalty for the losers. In the Returned Soldiers’ Choir - match Tenors beat Basses, 14-8. On the Oval a hard-fought Rugby match was contested between the employees of Kempthorne, .Prosser,' and Co.. Ltd., and P. Haymans, Ltd., resulting in a popular win for the former by 14 points to 5. For K.P, tries were scored by Ireland (converted), Brown, Watson, and Swete; Tyrell scoring and converting for Haymans. A special prize donated by Mr De Carle, the oldest employee of Kempthorno, Prosser, Ltd., was won by W. Ireland. Sir Himburg proved a capable referee. A very enjoyable game was played between Hog» and Co. and A. and T. Burt’s electrical department, the latter winning by 8 points to 3. Hart and Allison scored for the winners, Hay converting, and M ‘Dowell scored for the losers. Next Saturday Kaikorai and Green Island will play a benefit Rugby match at Green Island in aid of a Green Island resident who has suffered injury necessitating amputation of a limb. Teams frem the Fairfield and Dunedin Good Templars’ Lodges met at Opoho, Dunedin winning by 6-0, M‘Gregor scoring twice. The teams were entertained in the evening in the Valley Town Hall, Bro. South, C.T. 6f the Hope of Dunedin, having charge of a pleasant function.
