EMPIRE CONFERENCE
AIR SERVICE SCHEMES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, July 20. The Australian Press Association interviewed Mr Ashbolt (Agent-General for Tasmania) with reference to the Air Ministry’s communique. Mr Ashbolt said ho had the highest official support and the best financial authority for saying that a commercial air service was practicable provided Government assistance was assured during the first ten years, covering the experimental periods. The first period would probably bo two years, which would demonstrate the scientific and mechanical practicability of an interImperial service. The second period would be about seven or eight years, and should finalise the mechanical developments sufficiently to produce the highest type of airships capable of a round-the-world service at a maximum of efficiency and speed, and at a minimum cost, so as to bo commercially practicable. After that Government assistance would nqt be needed except in the form of subsidies for mail and other services.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
