The Kittawa went down to Port Chalmers yesterday to undergo overhaul. The Kauri is expected to leave Wellington to-morrow for Newcastle, where she will load again for Wellington. Tho schooner Thuraka encountered heavy weather in Cook Strait on Wednesday. The. vessel put into Wellington yesterday' for-a new mainsail. The Thuraka is hound from Tiinaru to Hobart. The Aioeraki left Sydney at 10 a.m. yesterday for Wellington and Lyttelton. /She will leave Wellington again on April 21 for Sydney and Hobart. Tile Waimate left Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon for Alelbourne and Sydney. After discharging the balance of her St. John cargo at those, ports she will return to New Zealand to load for London. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Whakatane arrived at Suva from London on April 6. She was expected to sail on Wednesday for Auckland, where she is due about April 18. Tho Trelynn, which left Dunedin tn April 8 for Newcastle, has been diverted to Alelbourne. Tho Commonwealth Government steamer Bilocla, with 5,771 tons of coal (a, record for tho port of Westport) and drawing 21ft llin (also a record), loft for Sydney on the morning of April 9, The output of coal last, week was tho best since prewar days. The Alaori changed articles at Lyttelton on Wednesday. Something in the nature of a record was established by the fact, that the whole of the ship’s com-plement-signed. on again. Tho Stella arrived at Auckland on Monday evening last from Wellington after a rough vovage. Leaving Wellington on the evening of April 7. she encountered moderate northerly winds and seas until Saturday, when the wind increased to a strong gale. The weather became so bad that the vessel was hovn-to off the East Cape from 9 p.m. on Saturday till 6 a.m. on Sunday. The wind then shifted to tho south-west, and remained in that quarter till arrival at Auckland. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Alaori arrived at Lyttelton at 8.15 a.m. to-day from Wellington, and passengers connected with the first express for the south. LARGE PRODUCE CARGO. Evers-Swindell, G. Hutton; seventy-four third class. SCHOONER’S ROUGH VOYAGE. Traces of a severe buffeting by heavy weather were borne by tho four-masted schooner Helen B. Sterling, which arrived

at Auckland on April 10 from Newcastle. The vessel left the New South Wales port on March 15, and three days later encountered strong south-east winds, accompanied by a very heavy swell. The schooner, which was laden with 2,100 tons of coal and about 1,000 telegraph polos—the latter being carried as deck cargorolled and labored heavily, resulting in the maintopmast head carrying avrny. These conditions continued until April 7, when the schooner encountered strong north-west winds and heavy seas. The. weather was very squally coming down the New Zealand coast, and on the evening of April 9, when the vessel was in the vicinity of Tiritiri (Hauraki Gulf), an exceptionally heavy squall struck _ her, breaking her foresail gaff, and splitting the sail from head to foot.
