GOVERNMENT DEBENTURES.
TO THE EDITOR. Dear Sir,—Five yqprs ago the Government issued £2,000,000 in debentures, inese fell due last week, and when presented to the Post Offite in Dunedin payment was refused, even as a deposit in the Savings Bank, and one was told to present them to the Treasurer in Wellington. Now, the serious part to perhaps hundreds of woifeing men Eke myself is that the debentures must be presented to the Treasurer. There is nothing on the debentures to say who is tho' owner, and as they were negotiable anyone can present them. They may fall into the hands of a dishonest person, or they may be lost in transit; and as far as I can see there is no remedy for the one who owns them. Hoping that yon will use your pen to persuade the Government to make the debentures payable at any Government post office, —I am, etc, Okt; of thk Ukfohttotatos. [Payment can be obtained at any branch of the Bank of Hew Zealand.—Ed. ' E S "\ December 22.
