What might -easily have been a drowning- fatality butior the pluck-and-, promptitude of one young man occurred at K&ka Point-on Wednesday afternoon (says the 'Free Press'). It appears that a Miss Itae, a young woman of about sevenieeu, belonging to Dunedin, and employed at Mr J. C. Shore's boarding-house on the Point, -went in baihing on the Wilsher Beach about half-past 2. She slipped off a rock into a deep hole, and, bebg unable to swim, was soon in difficulties. Her plight was perceived by Mr Ernie' Shore, son of the boarding-bouse proprietor, and he promptly -went to tho girf's rescue, and managed to drag her into shallow water. The girl was then completely unconscious, and, assistance arriving, she- was conveyed to the 'boarding-house, and later was attended to by Dr Brown, of BaJclutha.
