ROSSBOTHAM'S COMMERCIAL COLLEGE

This popular institution presents the following creditable record for the year 1920. At the Government examinations for stenographers and typists, held during the year, the following students were successful:— SpeciaL—Miss C A. Lonie. Senior.—Miss C. M. M'Kiimon, Miss Gladys M.'Kay, Miss Ella Burt. Junior.—Miss A, M. Thomas, Miss Elsie Kay, Miss E. L. Howorth, Miss A. E. MiLaren, Miss Cecelia M'Loughlin, Miss E. G. T. Scott. The Publio Service Commissioner recently gave expression to the fact that qualified lady shorthand typists are difficult to obtain, and, male typists are in veiy short supply. Successful candidates at the above examination (jualify for Civil Service appointments on the following- terms: —Special: Commencing salary of £l5O, rising to £2OO per annum, with superannuation. Senior: Commencing salary at £95, rising to £156 per annum. Junior: Commencing salary at £65, rising to £9O. Those desirous of entering upon a-cleri-cal career would bo welt advised to obtain a knowledge of . shorthand, typewriting, and bookkeeping, the stepping-stones to responsible and confidential positions under Government and in general commerce. Rossbotham's commercial course takes, approximately twelve months to complete, and is of high educational value. An interesting booklet, giving all information on the subject, may be obtained at the college office, 49 Dowling street, cm request. The system practised, is that of individual tuition, whereby the diligent student is encouraged to advance rapidly. Moreover, the "practical knowledge obtained during instruction enhances considerably the value of students to employers. As evidence -of this, it is pointed- out that Kossbothanrs employment bureau has met with remarkabto suqeess, and is freely patronised by all the leading commercial houses in the City. During the year just ended not less than 180 of Rossbotham's students have .been placed advantageously, in local firms,, a few -of whose names are mentioned herewith: A. S. Patersoa and Col, City Corporation, Sargood, Son, and Ewen, Ltd., National Insurance Comparay, Kenrpthorne, Proseer, and Co., A-. Steven and Co., Queensland Insurance Company, Otago Harbor Board, Donagby'e Rope and Twine Co., Utikto Steam -Ship Company, Bing, Harris, and Co., A. and T. Burt, Ltd., New Zealand Paper Mills. Trustees, Executora, and Agency Co., Remington and Rcneo Company, Bristol Piano Company, Perpetual Trustees and Executors, Park, Reynolds, and Co., Partridge and Co., United Insurance Company, Halkmstedn Bros., Ltd., Moore, Moore, and Niehol, Wright, Stephenson and Co., J. W. Swift and Co., Commercial 'Bank of Australia, Solomon, Gascoigne, londi Sinclair, Tutnbull and Martin, Roval Exchange Insurance Company, Gordon and Gotch, WartaM Dairy Company, Booth, H'Donald, and Co. The college is. equipped with every modern apphance necessary for instructing in commercial subjects. The rooms are large and well ventilated, separate desks being provided for each student; and the instructors are nnder the direct control of the principal [T. J. Eossbotham, LP.&, honors).
