CAVERSHAM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

i * ; The annual business meeting of the" con- ' •gregation of the Caversham Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday, the Interim Moderator (Rev. R. Fairmaid) presiding. The annual report and statement of accounts for the year ending June 30 were adopted, and a cordial vote of thanks was accorded those who had assisted in carrying on the various organisations of the church. Following are extracts from the annual report:— The session state that the roll of membership has not increased to any large extent; some of the members have moved i from the district, others have come from other congregauons, making our ■ membership about the same. The Lord's supper was dispensed four, times during the course of the year, with about the average number of communicants. The attendance at public worship on the Lord's 1 Day has, on the whole, been well maintained. The service of praise has been well sustained by Mr Forster and the ' choir. The session would bo gratified to see more male members in the choir. The church is at present without a settled minister, the Rev. D. Dutton having resigned the charge on account of advancing years, after having served the congregation ; faithfully and v.-ell for over 30 years. -The Committee of Management report that in the ordinary accounts the revenue 1 for the past year has exceeded the expenditure, and with the grants for mans 3 and church repairs, £25 and £35 respectively, a credit balance of £52 14s 8d has to be recorded. The chief sources of revenue show an increase of £59 19s 5d over the previous year, and the special \ collections an increase of £lO 2s Id; the total revenue from ali sources being £65? 17s' Li. whilo the expenditure shows a small increase. The svstem is , proving highly satisfactory. As the com- \ mittee have in contemplation a number of necessary repairs and improvements to the manse, which will entail a large expenditure, the committee trust that the congregation will respond libexally to any appeal ■ that_ may bo made upon them in thus con- , nection. Tho commitlee again gratefully acknowledge a donation f,rom the Ladies' Association of £l6, and also desire to express thanks to the choir for their efforts on behalf of the funds. The Sunday school report a successful year. The total number of scholars on the ; roll is 280, with an average attendance of about 200. The average collection per ■ Sunday is 18s. It is gratifying to note ' that an increase of £sl over last year 1 was raised by the Sunday school. Over £lO was made by tho sale of sweet pea ; .seeds for the library fund, and through this we were enabled to purchase a stock I of new books, and also to have p. large , number of the old books The ' j financial position of the mb • ::s, especis ally in China, having been brought to our notice, it was decided to augment the sum . of £5 annually sent to support our cot in ; the Canton Village Hospital by holding a ( gift sale. The effort resulted in our being j able to forward £l6 _los instead of £5. Reports of a satisfactory nature were presented on behalf of the Ladies' Asso- . ciation, the choir, the Bible classes, and , the Girls' Club. . ■ . __
