Sir William and Lady BLrdwood vera accorded a civic reception at Invercargill yesterday. They went to Queenstown today. Mr W. 11. Brugh left by the second express yesterday morning on a vis.it to Java and the East en route to England. Dr T. Julian, jun.. F.8.C.5., M.8.. Ch.B., has been appointed resident surgeon of Wairan Hospital (states a Blenheim Press Association telegram). There were four applicants. Dr Julian had three years and a-half's war service, and was for 12 months house surgeon at Dunedin Hospital. Mr J. Batchem and Mr W. Herbert, president and secretary respectively of the Storemen's Union, left this morning for Ohristchurch to attend the annual conference of the Storemen's Federation. Mr W. M. Fullai-ton, who has been juvendle probation officer here for the past few years, has been transferred to the Nelson and West Coast districts. (Jeneral Booth, of the Salvation Army, left Dunedin for C'hristchurch bv the 11.1.5 train to-day. Members of "the Army assembled ia force to see him off.
