A LOOK AHEAD. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrijrht Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, December 14. The Committee on Meat Supplies have issued a report which states"that the probable quantities of :>!oafc that can be shipped in 1921 will be 1,871,000 tons in 254 steamers, of which 480,000 tons will be from Australasia in. '13 1 ? steamers, and 847,000 tons from South America in 69 steamers. Tho committeo have received proposals that the contracts with Australia and New Zealand should be extended long enough to cover the reconstruction poriod, but it has been decided not to proceed with consideration of this plank in the absence of any evidence that the Dominions wanted their contracts maintained. The committee think that, as far as mutton and lamb are concerned, the Empire- will become self-supporting within a few years but it must bo dopendent on South America for the bulk of the beef imports for a considerable time to come.
