CUT POLICE COUPvT. (Before U. Y. Widdowson, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness. —Hugh Stanislaus Campbell (second lapse within six months) was fined 20a, with the alternative of 48 hours’ imprisonment. —Two first offenders, neither of whom appeared, were similarly- dealt with. Chimney on Fire.—Mary Bulmer, for allowing her chimney- to catch fire, was fined 10s and costs. Young Hoodlums.—Sydney Occson and Stephen Blyth, aged 17 and 16 respectively, for whom Mr O. J. L. White appeared, pleaded guilty to using indecent language in a public place.—Sub-inspector Mathieson said that on Monday evening last Constable M'Entee’s attention was drawn by some shouting and yelling in a portion of the Botanic Gardens. On proceeding to the spot the constable found tbs accused and another younger boy- up a tree, smoking, and using filthy' language. The spot ud joined a pathway along which the public passed. These boys had been giving a lot of trouble lately by playing- the hoodlum. The boys admitted using obscene but not indecent language.—Mr White said the boys wore sorry for what they had dope. They did net appreciate the seriousness ot the offence, which was committed at 7 o’clock at night—a time when not many people were about.—Rev. Air Axedsen said that nothing could be said against the boys’ homes.—The Magistrate said the boys were quite old enough to know what they were doing. Their conduct was deplorable. So that a hold might bo kept over them he would convict the boys and order them to come up for sentence when called upon j he would also strongly- recommend that, if there was any need for it, Air Axelsen should exercise supervision over them. Maintenance. —On the application of Mr J. Wilkinson a maintenance order against Mary Agnes Gaston was cancelled, and arrears remitted, the child having been adopted.
