PEACE CELEBRATIONS

MELTING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the peace celebrations met yesterday afternoon. Cr J. S. Douglas occupied tlia chair, and there were present Cr Thompson, Messrs It. Fennell, T. W. Mitchell, K. F- Hat hie, E. Kcliett, J. Itennie, rind I‘. Wilkinson. The C’ii'iuuaii said tliat nil the. shops cn the runte or the procession had arranged for the decoration of their premises, and these could be fixed at short notice. The arrangements for the electric light illuminations had been practicallycompleted hy Mr hi C. Henderson. Mr Ta;mock had the whole of his work in hand, and the military and other arrangements wore also well forward. The Secretary (Mr Divers) reported that the total donations to date amounted to £551 Ids. The Minister of Kail ways wrote stating that ho ec-uld not accede to the request of the executive that picnic railway rates should he granted fur the children’s picnic at Wingntni.—lt was decided to write to the Minister and advise him that the Acting Prime (Minister, when in Dunedin, had paid that he considered the children's portion of the celebrations should be made a special feature, and that, under these circiuustani’os, the executive considered cheap rail wav facilities should bo afforded. Mr A. S. Cookson, secretary of the Otago Employers’ Association, wrote stating that it had been agreed to dose the retail shops at 5 p.m. oa the Wednesday and Thursday in Peace Week, in addition to the two full holidays, but that it was thought tho late night on Friday should not bo interfered with.—Noted. A letter was received from the Incensed Victuallers 1 Association stating that the hotels in the City would he closed between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. cm the Monday and Tuesday. Mr F. Smith, manager of the Dunedin Savings Hank, said he regretted that his bank could not subscribe towards the celebrations fund. SYDNEY'S PROGRAMME. SYDNEY, June 24. The official programme for the peace celebrations suggested for August o, 4, : and 5 includes” "united thanksgiving seri vices, -school celebrations (with presenta- ■ bon of commemorative medals), military ! parade, regatta, military tournament, 1 sports, racing, and Venetian carnival.
